Charity Projects
The IWC sponsors and participates in charitable functions. These charitable functions of the Club are realized mainly through lectures, programs and special events such as the Holiday Bazaar. The profits from these events are used to provide funding for our diverse projects.
Our charity projects include a local Children's Foster Home, a Shelter for Homeless Women, and a Handicapped Children's Home. Other projects include UNICEF and the Heinrich Böll Foundation. We also support other local, smaller projects through donations and personal endorsement.
What does the club to assist our charities?
1.Wohnheim für behinderte Kinder und Jugendliche - at Christmas and Easter the club collects sweets, art supplies etc tor this kinderheim. We also support them with moneary donations. This Christmas we presented them with a 500 € donation. We are currently trying to find a donor for a computer with which the residents can create art works.
2.Strassenkinder - this Christmas we were able to present this group a donation of 500 € . This is the first time we have helped this group. We are also seeking, from members, donations of used furniture and other household items, as their shelter burned this summer and they lost almost everything.
3.Frauenhouse - each Christmas and Easter we provide the residents (app.25 women) with gifts as well as sweets to celebrate these holidays. We also collect used clothing and small household items for these women. Any items they cannot use are passed on to other local agencies that can use thrm. They also received a donation of 500 € this Christmas.
4.Kinder und Jugendheim Voelkerfreundschaft - this kinderheim is home for 15-16 children. At Christmas and Easter we supply gifts for children and they treat club members to a party. We also support them with money and other projects. These have included renovation of bedrooms, helping outfit a second kitchen, and renovating the garden and planting new plants. This year they recieved a 1,000 € donation at Christmas.
Each child was given a blanket with their name embroidered on it and a DVD player for thr house.
Currently the children are very much in need of a sturdy storage building for their bicycles (generously donated by DOW a few yeras ago) and supplies for their rabbits.
How does the IWC finance their charities?
1.donations from members. For example, the DVD given to the kinderheim was paid for by the club, but other presents (blankets and the monogramming, chokolates, DVD's) were donated. Also the gifts for the frauen (towels, shampoo, lotions, other toiletries) and the sweets were all donated.
2.
Christmas bazaar-each year the club has a bazaar where we sell hand crafted items and food. Again, all of these items are made and donated by club members. We also have a raffle, with most of the prizes donated by local bisiness. Donors this year included Siemens, MIBRAG,Gala,C&A,BMW, Washington Group International,Westin Hotel and Marriott Hotel. The profit this year was 2,500 € and all of this money was donated to our four charities. This year we hope to have a second fund raiser in the spring. We will also be selling a cookbook (printing donated by Mibrag) to raise money.
3.Dues.At the end of each year most of the money left in our account is distributed to our charities. our dues are only 25 € per person per year.
